I've been on the waiting list around 6.5 years. Prior to being added to the list, I was gatekept from the waiting list for a year by a doctor (turnpike lane GP) who (without my knowledge or consent) wrote into my medical notes that I was suffering from anxiety, depression and confusion in response to my request for gender based care. She forced me to start a prescription of Citalopram before she would consider my request, with the aim for me to prove I was sound of mind. I had no medical history of needing mental health support nor prescription. The medicine made me suicidal and impacted on my work, my studies and my sport at the time.

I finally fundraised and went private. Afterwhich she refused shared care and any follow up blood work until she made an agreement with me that if she signed my necessary paperwork to have my bloods done to get my first prescription, I would promise to relocate surgeries and leave her care.
