About The Project

The average waiting time to access a first appointment at a Gender Identity Clinic has grown exponentially over the past few years, seriously affecting the lives of thousands of trans people in the UK.

This project was created to centre real human stories by compiling the experiences and struggles that transgender and gender non-conforming people have faced due to the failures of the NHS to treat them in a timely manner. Any person who has suffered due to Gender Identity Clinic waiting times is. welcome to share the stories with us to be included as part of the project.

Whilst the project currently only exists as an online database, we are open to looking into ways of sharing these very important accounts with people in other ways in the future, whether that be physical/artistic installations and performances or as a form of published media. If we wish to use anything you have shared with us in any way outside of this website we will get in touch with you through your provided email address to state clearly how we wish to use any information provided to us and to ask for your full permission.

Who’s behind Tales From The Waiting List?

The safety and security of trans people is vital to this project and we want you to feel secure that any information you provide is being used responsibly. With that in mind it is important to share with you a little bit of information about who is behind the project.

This project was created and is current solely run by Evie Standen, a trans-femme non-binary activist, writer and trans rights advocate. They were referred to the Tavistock Gender Identity Clinic in March 2019 and are still waiting for a first appointment. Read more about their own story here.
